169. ?? snipe

katagai kamome katagai kamome 2
Visited Katagai fishing port again.
A cluster of something was on the jetty.
Tele-photo lens settng revealed it as a flock of snipes.
Internet sites for snipes seem to indicate this species as three-fingered snipe. Right?

168. Autumn
matumusidera higanbana matumusidera ojizou
At last, the weather looks more like autumn.
The surroundings of Inba marsh appear likewise.
Autumn makes me curious about 'aka-tonbo' (red-dragonfly). This has been so all the way since childhood.

167. Matumusi temple
matumusidera higanbana matumusidera ojizou
Visited Matumusi temple at the occasion of higan, autumn equinox week.
According to the young owner of a coffee shop beside the temple, higan flower is in full bloom today.

The Jizou statue at this place is large, well over 2 m high.
It carries what it loloks like a sord of Acala buddha in his hand. I wonder if this statue is really Jizou bodhisattva.

164. Medical helicopter
doctor helicopter at minami kouen Recently a medical helicopter has come to land at a nearby park almost every week.

This might be a result of the increased daytime population because of the opening of a large shopping center around here.

163. Dredging works
inage yacht harbour Inage yacht harbour.
Inclement weather with thunder brought the dinghies back to the harbour.

The 2-month long dredging works are under way. This area was originally a shallow beach and the sands seem to return to the harbour.

162. Sidewalk renewal
hodou seibi The photo is for a partial renewal of the pavement in front of a nearby firestation.

The work is a measure to the sidewalk surface lifted up by the roots of the camphor tree rows.

The trees are planted at every 10 meters or so along a 2-km street. Thus there exist 200 trees at one side, totally 400 along the street.

As the same works were made repeatedly for the last 30 years, the trees lift the pavement surface probably about 10 cm in 10 years. Namely, they lift the surface by 1 cm a year.

160. The worst day in Sweden
1936 soccer Strayed into the soccer museum at Tokyo Hongou on my way to another place.
The photo is from a corner introducing the Olympic soccer history in its 2nd basement.

The first appearance of our soccer team in Olympics was in Berlin games held in Showa 11 (1936) as in the photo.

This Japan team is said to compare unfavourably with the others in all respects. In fact, the team lost a practice game, 0-3, with the local club team who was at the bottom of rank. In addition, the first match was againt one of the favourites, Sweden.

The match with Sweden was held on Aug. 4th, with no Japanese media reporters. The 1st half was 0-2. But after the half time, Japan managed to get 3 goals and snatched the come-from-behind win. The photos are for that game.

This is called "A miracle in Berlin" here. While many Swedes call it "the worst day in Sweden".
